Selular.ID – Synology announced the release of DiskStation Manager or DSM 7.1 Beta version for system admins to test extended functionality.
DSM 7.1 builds on the largest platform upgrade introduced in DSM 7.0 and offers many innovative enhancements designed to address IT challenges.
“DSM 7.1 is an essential evolution to one of the most widely used data management platforms in the industry,” said Shamrock Ko, System Product Management team manager.
“Designed on an advanced foundation implemented in 7.0, we can now focus on addressing the more specific issues our users identify during their day-to-day use of the platform.”

Core Storage Upgrade
DSM 7.1 provides important improvements in the use of storage management.
Starting with the introduction of a file aggregation portal, this release adds DFS SMB capabilities to allow administrators to connect multiple Synology systems, giving users easier file access without having to remember each file location.
The new user interface introduced in the 7.0 release has been further optimized by consolidating background tasks into an easy view for administrators with transparency within the system, even across different user accounts.
For Synology High Availability clusters, users can now view and manage drives on both systems from a single Storage Manager instance for easier maintenance and management.

On the performance side, DSMs have long supported ultra-fast caches to improve cost-effective random I/O performance.
This latest version will further save on SSD caching with the ability to speed up multiple storage volumes simultaneously.
