The project Revive won the third edition of the competition at the MIND in Milan I-Daysthe Hackathon organized by SYNLAB Groupas part of a program developed by EIT Healthin collaboration with Cariplo Factory, Federated Innovation @MIND and theUniversity of Naples Federico II.
The initiative involved over 100 university students from all over Italy, who were then selected to participate in the Hackathon and compete on the theme “Aging of the population and chronic diseases. AI, cybersecurity and data science to improve patients’ quality of life”: the kids, divided into 8 working groups supported by coaches and professionals from the digital, tech and healthcare sectors, presented concrete and innovative projects, developed on ideas aimed at finding solutions for health through technology.
The Reviva project was designed to solve the problem of abandonment of post-stroke rehabilitation, a worrying phenomenon in Italy, where 75% of patients require continuous rehabilitation but medical and financial resources are insufficient. After hospitalization, many patients, in fact, do not receive the necessary support, interrupting the rehabilitation process. To address this gap, Reviva offers an innovative solution: an AI-based app that allows patients to continue rehabilitation at home. Through the platform, doctors set personalized paths, while patients perform motor and/or linguistic exercises, receiving real-time corrections to improve motor and communication functions.
“The i-Days are now a fundamental event for SYNLAB, which over the years has allowed us to come into contact with the energy and talent of hundreds of young people. Young people who, punctually at every edition, deny those who talk about the new generations with tones of distrust. We believe that offering them the correct tools and support must become a mission for all healthcare companies, because the challenges to be faced today are many and for us , as for all players in the sector, it is imperative to keep up – he commented Andrea BurattiCEO of SYNLAB Italia – young people spontaneously integrate technology into processes and have a natural aptitude for working in an integrated and collaborative way, without barriers”.
SYNLAB’s EIT Health i-Days took place with the support of leading companies in the Life Science thematic area of Federated Innovation @MIND and important partners involved for the occasion in youth mentorship activities, such as SDA Bocconi of Milan, University of Milan Bicocca, University of Naples “Federico II”, mama health e Sapio Group. The Hackathon 2024 made use of the active collaboration of E-Club Venturesa network of over 300 students from the main Italian universities, for the promotion and management of the event.
Reviva will participate in the international final of the EIT Health Innovation Days which will be held in Budapest on 28-29 November, an event that will bring together the winners of the other editions from other European countries. For all participants there will also be the possibility of being selected for internships, company theses or professional paths in SYNLAB.
