Synchronic, the review of the film with Anthony Mackie streaming on Prime Video

In these days when many are on vacation, it can happen – to the luckiest – to participate in parties and evenings that go on until late, between toasts, chats and moments of conviviality.

If, on your return home, you shouldn’t be able to fall asleep and would like to see a film that makes you “travel with your mind”, then we have a title to recommend your main video.

The film in question is called Synchronichas as its protagonist Antonio Macchie (The Falcon of theMarvel Cinematic Universe) and is a thriller about a strange drug and travel back in time.

If the previous sentence is not enough for you and you want to know more, continue reading this review, which continues with the summary of the film’s plot, without spoilers.

What is Synchronic about

Steve (Mackie) and Dennis (Jamie Dornanthe Christian Gray of 50 shades of…) are two paramedics. Steve is the classic womanizer (and a bit of an alcoholic and a mild drug addict), while Dennis has a teenage daughter, Brianna, and a one-year-old.

In their nightly shifts together they begin to come across increasingly strange cases, including ancient swords, snakes believed to be extinct and burned bodies. In one of these Steve is stung by a needle found in the apartment, and fearing being infected he has himself examined, to discover that he has a particular brain cancer.

In yet another strange case, Steve notices a package of a legal drug called “Synchronic” and decides he wants to know more. He therefore discovers that it is a kind of synthetic copy of theAyahuasca and that it is no longer produced. He buys the latest packs, and immediately a guy tries to buy them back.

When he refuses, the guy follows him home and sneaks in at night. Steve notices it and starts a scuffle, but then the man explains to him that he is the creator of that drug, and that he is raking up all the doses he can find to avoid other accidents caused by a strange side effect that leads drug users to travel back in time.

At the moment we stop here, not to spoil, maybe we will reveal some other details below but if you want you can stop here, with the Italian trailer of Synchronic.

Case explanations

Now, imagine that one night you find an intruder in your home, and this intruder tells you that something you bought acts on a part of the brain that causes your body to be thrown back in time: how would you react?

You’d probably call an ambulance, even before the police, to pick up and treat that lunatic. But no, Steve is just barely recalcitrant, but soon becomes convinced that the story is the truth and then takes the substance to find a missing person in the past.

Another aspect that “does not add up” concerns the synchronicity of the time jumps, in the sense that it is not clear why, crossing a time gap, on returning the same amount of time has elapsed in the present and in the past, which is then the same paradox we noted in The peripheral.

But, as mentioned at the outset, Synchronic it’s the right film to watch late at night, perhaps after returning from a party, when you want to see something that makes your mind travel without asking too many questions. And if you pass over a few inconsistencies here and there, you can safely enjoy this film.
