The president of a synagogue in the American city of Detroit who was stabbed to death over the weekend was buried on Sunday. Police are still looking for a motive for the murder. The local police chief said in a statement on Sunday that “no evidence has emerged that this crime was motivated by anti-Semitism”.
Emergency services found the chairman, 40-year-old Samantha Woll, on the street on Saturday with multiple stab wounds. A trail of blood led to her house, where the police believe the stabbing incident probably took place.
The police are investigating the murder together with the FBI. The statement did not say whether a suspect had been identified.
Woll has been chairman of the board of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue since 2022, and is also active in the Democratic Party. According to the local newspaper Detroit Free Press, Woll was also involved in an organization that aims to bring young Jews and young Muslims together.
