Synagogue Chairwoman Stabbed to Death in Detroit: Investigation Underway

The head of a synagogue in the northern US city of Detroit, close to local Democratic Party politicians, was found stabbed to death outside her home yesterday, media and police said, without giving a motive, AFP and Reuters reported.

Police officers and medical examiners called to the scene found a man lying on the ground and pronounced him dead, local police said in a press release.

The Detroit Free Press identified the victim as 40-year-old Samantha Wall. “Police officers noticed a trail of blood that led them to the victim’s home, where the crime apparently took place,” city police said.

During the first examination, multiple knife wounds were found on the victim’s body and the investigation was entrusted to the “Homicide” department, the police added and specified that “the motive for this murder remains unknown.”

Detroit’s Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue said on Facebook that they were “shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of Samantha Wall, our board chair,” without further details.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Wall has been leading the synagogue since 2022, and previously worked for Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin and was involved in the election campaign of Michigan State Attorney Dana Nessel.

Both women are Democrats.

Nessel said she was “shocked, saddened and horrified by Sam’s violent murder.”

“She was the kindest person I have ever met, motivated by a genuine love for her community and her country.”

The United States, especially New York, has been rocked by demonstrations and tensions, and there have been reports of violence between Jewish and Muslim groups fueled by the Middle East war between Hamas and Israel, AFP noted.
