A bronchiolitis epidemic threatens several French regions. According to the weekly report by Public Health France, the last few days have been characterized by the “continuation of the increase in bronchiolitis monitoring indicators in children under the age of two”.
No region is currently affected by an outbreak as such, but many of them are now considered to be in a preliminary stage: Upper France, Île-de-France, New Aquitaine and Occitania.
This respiratory disease affects children. Common and highly contagious, bronchiolitis causes in children cough and wheezing, rapid and labored breathing. While it is painful for young parents, it is most often benign. But it may require a trip to the emergency room or even hospitalization.
What to do if your child is sick?
If your child has bronchiolitis symptoms, there are several scenarios. In the first case it will be necessary get him to the emergency room quickly if : is less than six weeks old, is a premature baby under three months of age, has already identified respiratory or heart disease, drinks less than half of their bottles at three consecutive meals and vomits systematically, sleeps constantly, or, conversely, cries in an unusual way and cannot fall asleep.
In a second case, if the child does not correspond to the cases mentioned above, here are the actions to be taken. First of all, you must also follow the doctor’s prescriptions clean your nose at least six times a day with saline solution. Also give him water regularly and feed him more often, but in smaller quantities. Finally, we recommend that you don’t cover it too much, keep putting him on his back and above all do not smoke near him.
