High cholesterol rarely causes obvious symptoms at first, but there are some signs that appear on parts of the body, such as the face, that may indicate health problems, according to Dr. Ibrahim Saeed Jumaa , an internal medicine and malnutrition specialist.
Gomaa said in an exclusive statement to Masrawy that some signs that may indicate high cholesterol, nicknamed the “silent killer,” include the following:
– Yellow spots on the eyelids.
– The appearance of a thin white line around the cornea.
– the presence of excess fat under the skin.
He emphasized that these signs are not necessarily a sure proof of harmful high cholesterol, because they can result from other causes, so if you notice any of these signs, you should consult a doctor to do the necessary medical tests and get the right diagnosis.
He pointed out that cholesterol is called a “silent killer” because it can build up in the blood without causing obvious symptoms for many years, which increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and atherosclerosis.
He revealed several ways to prevent high cholesterol, including:
– Follow a healthy diet low in saturated fat.
– Eat food rich in fiber.
– Exercise regularly.
– Maintain a healthy weight.
Stay away from smoking.
