Symptoms of New Clade Bird Flu Similar to Influenza, Ministry of Health Reveals the Difference

Avian Influenza Type A virus (Bird Flu virus) does not usually infect humans, but some cases of human infection are rare. Disease in humans due to infection with the Avian Influenza virus ranges in severity from asymptomatic to mild disease.

For example, eye infections, symptoms of the upper respiratory tract to serious illness, namely pneumonia which results in death. Human infection with the Avian Influenza virus most often occurs after close or prolonged contact without protection, ie without wearing gloves or respiratory protection or eye protection, with infected birds or places touched by sick birds or their saliva, mucus, and feces.

Human infection with the Avian Flu virus can occur when the virus gets into a person’s eyes, nose or mouth, or is inhaled, quoted from the CDC page titled, Current U.S. Bird Flu Situation in Humans.

This can happen when the virus is in the air — in droplets or maybe dust — and someone breathes it in or maybe when someone touches something that has the virus on them and then touches their mouth, eyes or nose.

Spread of the Avian Flu virus from an infected person to close contact is extremely rare, and when it does occur it has not resulted in continuous spread between humans. Six main hemagglutinin (HA) subtypes of avian influenza viruses have infected humans causing acute respiratory illness (H3, H5, H6, H7, H9, and H10 viruses).

Among these, the H5N1 and H7N9 viruses have caused the majority of human infections.
