A shortage or too much is never good. However, the chance of an excess of vitamin D is small. But that does not alter the fact that it does not hurt to recognize the symptoms – if there is ever an excess of vitamin D. There can be a number of annoying symptoms attached to it.
How do you get too much vitamin D?
In contrast to a vitamin D deficiency, an excess of vitamin D is not very common in the Netherlands. Yet there are people who swallow vitamin pills as if they were sweets. And unnecessary intake of vitamins is not recommended. The same goes for the vitamin D pills.
How much vitamin D to take per day?
According to it Nutrition Center applies to everyone recommended daily amount of 10 micrograms of vitamin D. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recommends a maximum of 100 micrograms of vitamin D per day for adults. Dutch law stipulates that a dietary supplement may contain a maximum of 25 micrograms. So can you take too much vitamin D? Yes, but then you take more supplements than prescribed.
Too much vitamin D symptoms
There are several things that can happen to your body if you have too much vitamin D, namely:
Kidney stones Calcium deposits around organs Damage to the heart Nausea Vomiting Loss of appetite Fever Chills Drowsiness or tiredness Weight loss
