Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Symptoms of Covid virus infection can now be in the form of muscle pain such as back and waist pain. In fact, this symptom of low back pain is quite common in Covid patients. A study in the UK revealed that about one in five Omicron patients experience back pain.
Then, how to distinguish back pain due to Covid and regular muscle pain?
Most Covid patients report pain in the lower back, Healthline reports. Back pain often appears in the early stages of the disease, but it can also be a long-term symptom that persists for weeks or even months after infection.
Back pain can be caused by various conditions, not only Covid-19. Too much sitting and rarely stretching can also cause back pain.
One study in 2020 showed that the intensity of low back pain experienced by people with COVID-19 in the medical literature was reported to be mild to moderate, similar to other viral infections.
Back pain caused by COVID-19 is often described as a deep ache, not the sharp or stabbing pain that may accompany a sudden muscle injury. The pain caused by a viral infection also tends to decrease by changing your posture. This does not apply to pain caused by muscle injury.
Some people report experiencing persistent back pain after a COVID-19 infection. This pain is still felt even months after recovering from Covid.
An Italian study in 2020 found that about 25 percent of people with COVID-19 experience persistent joint pain for up to two months after the onset of COVID-19 symptoms. It is the third most commonly reported symptom of Long-Covid after fatigue and shortness of breath.
