TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A researcher from the UK said that children may be less affected by the new coronavirus or Covid-19 as in adults so they can show completely different symptoms.
Reporting from Express UK, Monday, September 21, 2020, Professor Team Spector, who developed a Covid-19 symptom tracking application, said that children with colds do not have the virus and should not be tested.
He also revealed that child-children under the age of 18 with a cough or nasal congestion are almost certain to have the common cold, which affects many schools, not Covid-19.
In an effort to release some of the stress on the testing system, Spector said parents should be aware of symptoms specifically associated with children before removing them from school and getting tested for coronavirus.
“The children didn’t seem to have lost their sense of smell and they also didn’t seem to have frequent coughs and shortness of breath. So this is a picture that is different from other age groups. Maybe because the immune system behaves differently, “he told The Telegraph.
However, he said in the next few weeks, when the entire health care system in the UK has begun to subside, the advice to check into a health facility for children with coughs and colds is a good thing.
What Spector disclosed is quite contrary to what is currently advised by local governments and global health agencies. On the NSD website, it states if a person has the main symptoms of the virus then he or she needs to get tested as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the symptom tracking app states that most of the children who have tested positive for Covid-19 suffer from fatigue and headaches. About half had a fever and more than a third had a sore throat or loss of appetite.
The report also said that one in six children is shown to have an unusual skin rash. While a third do not have any of the 20 potential symptoms listed in the application, indicating that their symptoms are asymptomatic.
However, children have been shown to be infected by corona virus new and became sick of it. Apart from that, they can also transmit the virus to other people. However, fewer children suffer from Covid-19 than adults.
The Center for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) explains that children, like adults who have Covid-19 but do not show symptoms, can still spread the virus to other people.
“Most children with Covid-19 have mild or no symptoms. However, some children get very sick. They may need hospitalization, intensive care, or a ventilator to help them breathe, ”notes the CDC.
