Suastika said, it is not enough to determine a person’s diabetes diagnosis by looking at the symptoms they experience.
“Because not everything is clearly symptomatic,” he said.
Therefore, blood sugar testing becomes important in upholding the diagnosis of diabetes.
“If there are symptoms, we can check fasting blood sugar, or we can check random blood sugar for example at one time, or we can check the name with 75 grams of glucose which is usually done in the laboratory, or we can also check HbA1c,” said Suastika.
Suastika explained, HbA1c is the average blood sugar level. These tests are usually performed for monitoring, but can also be used for diagnostics.
“So if the HbA1c is more than six and a half, if the fasting blood sugar is more than 126, if the random blood sugar is more than 200 or with a glucose load of 75 grams more than 200, then that’s what we call diabetes.”
