Symptoms and the Right Time to Screen

KOMPAS.com – Cervical cancer in Indonesia is still one of the cancers with the second highest number of sufferers after breast cancer.

According to data released by The Global Cancer Observatory in 2020, new cases cervical cancer increased to 17.2 percent.

Obstetrics and gynecology specialist at Pondok Indah Hospital, Dr. dr Bambang Dwipoyono, Sp.OG (K) said that the lack of public awareness to vaccinate and early detection has led to delays in patients getting treatment.

“I collected data for about 10 years. The woman affected (cervical cancer) is 40-45 years old, and unfortunately comes (to the hospital) with a stage two or three condition,” said Bambang in a webinar broadcast by Pondok Indah Group Hospital, Friday (4/2/2022).

If diagnosed at an early stage, he continued, the chances of controlling cervical cancer and the survival rate of survivors could be higher.
