This symposium comes in the wake of the great success achieved by the first cultural symposium within the cultural program of the “Andalusia: History and Civilization” initiative, which was held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, last September, and recorded a remarkable attendance by a large number of scholars, specialists, and those interested in Andalusian civilization. The symposium includes a group of sessions that discuss multiple topics, including literature, art, translation, and the educational and academic renaissance during the Andalusian era.
The sessions witness the participation of a group of experts, specialists, historians and representatives of the academic community from prestigious educational and cultural institutions, including the UAE University, the University of Sharjah, the University of Jordan, the University of Tlemcen, the University of Puerto Rico, and others. On its first day, the symposium covered topics centered around Andalusian literature and the extent of its influence on Arabic literature, as well as the translation of Andalusian literature, in addition to Andalusian science sessions, with a special focus on schools and universities during the Andalusian era. The first session focused on “Andalusian Literature” and was chaired by Dr. Noura Al-Karbi – University of Sharjah, in which Dr. Hisham bin Senussi, University of Tlemcen in Algeria, spoke about the topic “The Image of Andalusia in Arabic Stories,” while Dr. Salah Jarrar, University of Sharjah, touched on “The Specificity of Andalusian Literature and the Movement of Investigation of Literature.” Dr. Salvador Peña Martí, University of Malaga, also spoke about Andalusian literature, and Dr. Jaime Sanchez Ratia discussed the topic “Translation in Andalusian Literature.” The second session today revolves around “Andalusian Sciences and Knowledge,” which is chaired by Dr. Adrian Deman, UAE University, during which Dr. Mohamed El-Gamal, Alexandria University, will speak about “The Milestones of Andalusian Civilizational Achievement,” while Dr. José Miguel Puerta, from the Higher Council for Scientific Research in Madrid, will address the topic of “Sciences and Writings of the Andalusians through the Encyclopedia of the Library of Andalusia.”

Dr. Maribel Fierro, Higher Council for Scientific Research in Madrid, addresses the topic of “Andalusian Schools and Universities,” and Dr. Muhammad Al-Miqdadi discusses, “Agriculture and Garden Science in Andalusia.” On its second day, the symposium will witness the organization of a session “The Moriscos and the Artistic and Literary Heritage,” chaired by Dr. Ahmed Al-Mansouri from the UAE University, during which Dr. Enas Sahabo, from the Higher Institute in Tunisia, will speak on the topic “The Moriscos and Literary Art,” while Dr. Luis Bernabe Nunes, from the University of Alicante in Spain, will address “the existential fate of the Moriscos and in the memory of the Spaniards.” In turn, Dr. Maria Teresa Narvaez, University of Puerto Rico, discusses “Al-Khamidi literature as a means of preserving heritage and the strong armor of the Andalusians,” and Dr. Rafael López Guzmán speaks about “The influence of Andalusian-Moorish art on the American continent.” It is noteworthy that the “Andalusia: History and Civilization” initiative aims to deepen knowledge about Andalusian civilization.
