Is life in a new world waiting for us? What will it be like? What would we like? – these questions permeate the Second Symphony “Towards the New World” by composer Agneta Krilova. The work came at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic was taking over the world, and there was a great deal of ignorance and embarrassment among the people. Agneta Krilova dressed these feelings in music at the same time as hoping for a change in a positive direction, so the symphony sounds bright. Its premiere will take place on Saturday, September 18, at the Grand Guild, at the opening concert of the Sinfonietta Rīga Orchestra. In addition to the new work, there will also be compositions by two classical geniuses – Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Agneta Krilova’s new work is like a collage of feelings that not only she, but we have all experienced in the last year and a half.
The symphony originated in the early stages of a pandemic, when people were overwhelmed by great ignorance, which gradually grew into fatigue and despair, and a lot of questions arose – why is this happening, why right now, what does it mean for the future? Composer Agneta Krilova says: “This work was also done during this time of questions, in a time of uncertainty and change. As I write this symphony, I think what could this new world be like? Because it is clear that it will not be as it was, but – as it really will be, no one already knows. “
Although no one knows how the situation will develop, Agnet Krilov’s symphony concludes with a light note, because she has high hopes that people who have gone through various stages will have really understood something important, although what is happening at the moment does not indicate it at all. “When the changes started, we as a society were united in the beginning, we stayed together, we were understanding with each other.
But now the exact opposite has happened, we are going into a period of division, that people are at war with each other with opinions, with attacks.
And then I have the hope that when we go through these stages, maybe we will finally come, and I believe we will come to the final answer, how do we live next. That’s my hope, so the symphony sounds pretty bright, but there are a lot of questions in between, ”explains the composer.
As is characteristic of the handwriting of the Sinfonietta Rīga Orchestra, it democratically combines contemporary composers with great greats in their program, and this time they will be Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven.
Haydn will be represented by his 28th Symphony, written in his youth, which demands giant virtuosity from musicians, but Sinfonietta Rīga is perfectly capable of dealing with it – the best words about its orchestra can be said to its artistic director and conductor Normunds Šnē. He emphasizes: “What we can feel in this symphony is Haydne’s joy that he finally has a real orchestra in his hands, for which he can write anything that comes to his mind, because it can play everything. Well, then he expands!
In fact, this is one of the most virtuoso symphonies that any of this period has come to us on consoles, because there really is Haydn daring to offer the most unimaginable things.
It’s really not easy for string players, but I’m lucky enough to have a great orchestra, and so we can afford to do whatever comes to our minds, and Haydn’s symphony is amazing. “
The concert will also feature Beethoven’s cheerful and joyful First Piano Concerto – one of the masterpieces of this genre. The soloist will be a Tashkent-born Uzbek pianist, winner of the London International Piano Competition Behzod Abduraimov.
He is thirty years old and can be proud of his collaboration with the world’s best orchestras and performances in prestigious concert halls and festivals. Normunds Šnē is very happy about this meeting: “Behzod Abduraimov is simply an amazingly fantastic pianist. You know, there are thousands in the world right now – I’m not afraid of that – very good pianists. Everyone has a dazzling technique, and in general, the competition for musicians playing this instrument is terrible. But in addition to the special sound and brilliant technique, he has the ability to delve very deeply into the music, the freshness of interpretation and the ability to look at certain things without prejudice. ”
The opening concert of the orchestra’s season will take place on Saturday, September 18, in the Grand Guild, and when the season opens, the musicians’ greatest hope is that during the whole season they will be able to feel the direct presence and live connection with the audience.
The opening concert of the season will be followed on September 25 by a music concert by Mozart and Haydn, in which the director and soloist of the performance will be the famous Russian violinist Alina Ibragimova.
