An incident occurred today (23/8) off the coast of Symi between the Coast Guard and a speedboat from Turkey, resulting in the fatal injury of a person.
The incident occurred when the high-speed boat – which was carrying migrants from Turkey – did not comply with the visual and audio signals from the Coast Guard vessel, performing dangerous maneuvers.
In fact, according to a relevant statement from the Coast Guard, the speedboat attempted to ram the Coast Guard vesselendangering the physical integrity of crew members.
The foreigner who was mortally wounded was transported to the General Hospital of Rhodes, while the speedboat with the remaining 13 passengers was taken to the port of Symi.
