In July 2023, 26-year-old Sylvie’s life was suddenly turned upside down when she discovered that her right leg was paralyzed. This shocking discovery ultimately led to the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Now, almost a year later, Sylvie faces a new challenge: she will climb the famous Mont Ventoux to raise money for research into this disease. Read more about her story here, donate today and help find a cure for MS.
Without hesitation, last July, when Sylvie woke up, she simply left for work. Once there, her colleagues were concerned and decided to call the doctor immediately. The doctor reacted shocked: “You have to come immediately.” In the hospital she underwent several tests, and the suspicion soon arose: MS, or Multiple Sclerosis.
Diagnosis confirmed
The diagnosis was confirmed after an MRI scan. Sylvie received an intensive course of prednisone to reduce the inflammation. Her life changed drastically. She regularly undergoes infusion treatments to inhibit new infections. The drug is relatively new, so the long-term effects are unknown.
To fund more research into MS and ultimately find a cure, Sylvie and a group of people have committed to climbing Mont Ventoux on May 20, 2024 and raising money. Her father, sister, boyfriend and other loved ones will accompany her on this journey. With a height of 1909 meters and a total climb of 21 kilometers, it promises to be a real challenge.
Lots of donations
“The money we have raised so far gives me a lot of energy,” says Sylvie. “The feeling that people are really behind me is priceless.” Their goal is to raise at least €10,000 by May 20. With already 201 donations worth €9070, Sylvie is almost at her goal. “We just want to raise as much money as possible, because more research means more hope for people with MS.” Every donation, no matter how small, contributes! Let’s help her raise at least €10,000 by May 20, 2024. Your support can make a world of difference.
Sylvie will walk the last 5 kilometers of the climb herself. Although it is still a physical challenge for her to climb the mountain, she remains determined to do her part. Follow her journey here.
