Sylvie Meis in an interview about breast cancer, money and fame

Sylvie Meis has been in the public eye for more than twenty years and has worked her way through dozens of formats, presentations and other appearances. The Dutch woman can also call herself the owner of her own jewelry brand and creative director of her own sub-line of “Hunkemöller”.

Her love life and her battle against breast cancer were also made public. She is now one of the most famous women in Europe and has to come to terms with this position on a daily basis.

In an interview with the „Bild“ Meis talks about her current attitude to money, how she deals with fame and her battle with breast cancer.

Interview with Sylvie Meis: “I have not lost faith in true love”

Even though Meis has had to overcome many obstacles in the course of her career, the battle she had to fight against breast cancer in 2009 remains the greatest challenge of her life. Even today, she gets emotional when the subject is brought up.

In an interview, she tearfully describes how she experienced the situation at the time. “I was scared to death,” she told the newspaper, and continued: “I think about the cancer every day. The illness has turned me into a different Sylvie.”

The presenter sees the biggest change in her personal emancipation from her then husband and footballer Rafael van der Vaart, from whom she divorced in December 2013. According to Meis, the two are now good friends. “Rafael’s new partner Estavana is wonderful. We all celebrate Damian’s birthday together and have become a happy patchwork family.”

However, the model herself did not manage to find lasting happiness in her second marriage either. In February 2023, she made her separation from the German artist Niclas Castello public, but is now engaged again to the German entrepreneur Patrick Gruhn.

“I have not lost faith in true, great love,” she says in an interview.

Sylvie Meis: “I earned a lot of money”

Anyone who has been a public figure for so long inevitably has to learn how to deal with the great pressure that comes with it. “Of course there are moments when I am sad when things are not going well in my private or professional life. Then I would like to pull a blanket over my head. But that is not possible. I do not want to lose my dignity. So I leave the house with my head held high and beaming,” explains the 46-year-old.

The model is prepared to make sacrifices and restrict herself for her “role” in public. Her diet is the most important framework for her to function in everyday life. “Yesterday I had an ice cream. Pasta and pizza are also allowed. Today I’m only having salad with fish. I have a shoot for Aldi soon, and I want to be in shape for that,” says the presenter.

Meis also shows an iron-clad self-image when it comes to her finances. Although she has “earned a lot of money,” she also has a “high standard of living” that has to be financed.
