Sylvi Listhaug, fuel prices | FRP in the throat of the Conservative Party about the increase in fuel prices: – A short tour

The Conservative Party believes that taxes on diesel and petrol must increase if it wants to make it more attractive to choose green options. Deputy director Tina Bru would prefer to reduce the tax rate, so that people are left with more of their own money.

The Conservative Party believes that the prices of petrol and diesel must be increased

– I sympathize that things are expensive, and that people have bills to pay. But it is possible to give tax relief to people and allow people to keep more of their own wages, then they would rather be compensated for fuel being more expensive that way. We cannot lose the principle in the taxes that it should be worth choosing the green option, and that it is polluters who have to pay, said Bru to the Nation recently.

Sylvi Listhaug, leader of the Progressive Party, is not very happy with the proposal for a Tory car policy.

– It is a shame that the Conservative Party echoes the parties on the left in their belief in tax increases. This will affect those who can’t afford it or who want an electric car because it’s not their driving style, Listhaug told the Nation.

Frank Sve (Frp) is also shocked by the proposal from the Conservative Party. He is a Storting representative and first deputy chairman of the Storting’s transport committee.

– That’s the biggest mistake you can make now. We are in a situation where citizens have experienced sky high fuel prices, electricity prices, food prices and interest costs. When families experience all these factors, they struggle greatly. Fuel price hikes are a short circuit from the Conservative Party. It’s a dream policy, and it’s not real, says Sve.

He points out that both private individuals, businesses and municipalities are struggling due to higher costs, including fuel.

– It is very impressive for the transport, building and construction industry. If the Conservative Party is going to raise fuel prices, it will mean that more companies will have problems and fewer of them will make money, said Sve.

– I don’t care

The politician FRP believes that is what prevents the green transition for these companies, that they cannot pay for vehicles with zero emissions.

– There is feedback from the large companies in the transport, building and construction industry that they will look at the possibility of changing to vehicles with zero emissions, but they do not have the financial capacity. Economic stability in the business world and in households must be in place before anyone can expect to buy a zero-emissions vehicle.

This means the state budget for the family wallet

The FRP has proposed reducing fuel taxes, and in the first version of the party’s new program this is included as a separate item.

– How do you manage this in collaboration with the Conservative Party?

– It has been shown time and time again that the Conservative Party needs a strong FRP to run good right-wing politics. When we have been in a community, we have shown that we come up with good solutions. The solution is not to increase fuel prices, but to have a different tax and duty policy which means that more people will come to work, says Sve.

– In Troms and Finnmark and Innlandet, the share of electric cars is around 11 percent. Is there something that is bothering you?

– It doesn’t bother me one iota, it’s just the result of what’s real. In the rural areas, electric cars cannot be used in a normal winter.

MDG supports jumps in fuel prices

The Conservative Party, on the other hand, is supported by the Green Party.

– The price for fossil fuel must rise, and especially after 2025 when it is the goal that fossil fuel cars will no longer be sold, says Ingrid Liland, deputy chair of the MDG.

In the national budget, the government has proposed to increase the CO2 tax on fuel, but at the same time they are cutting the road use tax. This means that the tax rate does not increase the price of a pump to a certain extent.

The government has been criticized for opposing climate policy by offsetting the CO2 tax with other tax cuts for diesel and petrol cars.

– It must always be more profitable to use an electric car than a fossil car, whether this relates to fuel, taxes or other fees. This has been a common goal of most parties in the Storting, which the government has unfortunately weakened in recent years by reducing taxes for fossil fuel cars, and at the once increasing taxes for electric cars.

– What specific measures do you think need to be introduced to get more people to switch to zero-emission vehicles in rural areas?

– The most important thing that remains for the regions is to implement even bigger and better charging stations, because they have not come so far everywhere in the country. We need to eliminate area concerns, whether people live in the city or the countryside.

Vedum: – Strongly against it

Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (Sp) says he lives well with criticism from the Conservative Party and MDG that diesel and petrol prices are kept down.

– In Norway, people depend on cars and we need to have a car policy that does not increase people’s overall tax costs. Although the new cars are only electric cars, we have to remember in car policy that the slightly older car fleet is dominated by fossil cars. I am strongly against the desire of the right to increase the tax for people who have slightly older cars, so the Center Party and Labor have kept the tax on fuel down, says Vedum.
