Sydney Sweeney Addresses Affair Rumors and Box Office Flop in ‘Saturday Night Live’ Monologue
Actress Sydney Sweeney took the stage as the host of “Saturday Night Live” this week, and she wasted no time addressing the rumors that have been swirling around her. With her signature wit and charm, Sweeney tackled the gossip head-on, leaving no stone unturned.
One of the most outrageous rumors she addressed was the speculation that she had an affair with her co-star Glen Powell while filming their hit romantic-comedy “Anyone But You.” Sweeney quickly shut down the rumor, stating, “The craziest rumor I’ve seen is that while I was filming ‘Anyone But You,’ I was having an affair with my co-star Glen Powell. That’s obviously not true.” She went on to explain that her fiancé, Jonathan Davino, who also produced the movie, was with her throughout the entire shoot.
The affair rumors had been a constant narrative during the filming of “Anyone But You” and continued to circulate during the press tour for the film. However, both Sweeney and Powell have vehemently denied these claims. Sweeney took the opportunity to set the record straight, declaring, “I just want to let everyone know that he’s the man of my dreams and we’re still together and stronger than ever. He even came here tonight to support me.” The cameras then cut to a seemingly clueless Powell, who appeared less than thrilled to be caught on television.
It is worth noting that at the time of filming, Sweeney was engaged to Davino, while Powell was in a relationship with his girlfriend, Gigi Paris. However, by the time the press tour rolled around, Powell and Paris had split.
In addition to addressing the affair rumors, Sweeney also poked fun at her recent box office flop, “Madame Web.” The female-fronted Marvel drama, in which she starred alongside Dakota Johnson, failed to make a significant impact at the box office, bringing in a mere $17.6 million on its opening weekend in February. Sweeney playfully acknowledged this disappointment, stating, “You might have seen me in ‘Anyone But You’ or ‘Euphoria.’ You definitely did not see me in ‘Madame Web.'”
But Sweeney didn’t stop there. She also took a lighthearted jab at the Hollywood trend of weight-loss injections. Known for her enviable figure, Sweeney refuted rumors that she had used a nutritionist to achieve her physique. Instead, she quipped, “I’m in shape because I run, avoid sugar, and do Ozempic.” Ozempic is a federally approved Type-2 diabetes medication that is sometimes used as a weight-loss drug.
Sweeney’s monologue on “Saturday Night Live” was a testament to her ability to laugh off the rumors and address them head-on. With her quick wit and undeniable charm, she proved that no one can roast her quite like she can. As she continues to make waves in Hollywood, it’s clear that Sydney Sweeney is a force to be reckoned with both on and off the screen.
