Sydney: 15-year-old arrested for knife attack at church – 2024-04-16 09:38:18

Australian police have announced the arrest of a 15-year-old boy for stabbing a bishop and a clergyman inside a Sydney church during a live sermon.

The suspect was treated for injuries to his hand and taken to a safe location as the attack has angered worshippers, said Andrew Holland, a New South Wales state police officer.

Bishop Emmanuel was preaching at Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Weakley in Sydney’s west on Monday shortly after 7pm (local time) when a man dressed in black attacked him in the sanctuary, allegedly stabbing him multiple times. .

The horrifying video of the incident, which was even broadcast live on the church’s YouTube page, shows Bishop Emmanuel bewildered as the assailant attacks him.

Meanwhile, at least two police officers are in hospital and vehicles have been damaged during violent protests following today’s knife attack at an Assyrian temple in Sydney, police said.

Officers were injured by people throwing “bottles, bricks and other objects,” Holland said.

The parish priest was injured in the attack without his life being in danger, as were three other people.
