The curtains fell on the second edition of the Sya Cinematographic Meetings (RECIS) this November 12, 2023 at the Anselme Titianma Sanon de Bobo culture house. Filmmakers and film buffs took part in this closing ceremony.
After five days of film screenings and work, the lanterns went out on the second edition of the Sya Cinematographic Meetings on November 12. For Éric Bayala, president of RECIS, this second edition was organized in “very difficult” conditions because in the midst of organization, partners withdrew and there were difficulties in having certain films from the diaspora, specifies- he. The president of RECIS adds that the socio-security situation in the country meant that several filmmakers, producers and directors were unable to travel to Burkina.
But despite everything, it is against a backdrop of satisfaction that the second edition of RECIS closes for having been able to hold it. This was possible, according to the words of Éric Bayala, thanks to a very dynamic and voluntary team who agreed to support the RECIS in addition to certain partners such as the Cultural and Tourist Development Fund. This ceremony served as a framework for the presentation of distinctions to the various winners.
In this regard, 29 works in total were in competition in the categories of African fiction feature and short films, African feature and short documentary films, Diaspora fiction short films, Diaspora feature and short documentary films and video clips from Burkinabe artists. This is how the Silure for best short film was awarded to Issa Tiendrébéogo from Burkina Faso with The Dance of the Diviners.
Souhoudoun Barry is co-director of the documentary film Pasture greens who won first prize in this category. He says it is an honor and a joy when the work is rewarded. However, there was no distinction in categories such as best African feature film. The jury justified itself by saying that “the technical and artistic levels of the works presented in this category did not satisfy the jury who decided not to award a prize.” Which really didn’t please Kolo Daniel Sanou, president of the jury. To hear it, there were more productions in the previous edition than in this one. He therefore calls on directors, especially Burkinabè, to participate in these types of competitions. Appointment has been made for the third edition of RECIS scheduled for November 13 to 17, 2024.
