The project for this cultural week, in homage to the social utopia of Besançon Charles Fourier (1772-1837), was built on the occasion of the publication of the book by Sherill Tippins« Inside the Dream Palace, The Life and Times of New York’s Legendary Chelsea Hotel » ( «Dans le palais des rêves »).
The book tells 130 years of Chelsea Hotel history. This establishment housed an incomparable community of artists and musicians. The American Singer Bob Dylan notably resided there.
Salins-les-Bains in the spotlight
This idea of a shared artistic life is inspired by the ideas of Charles Fourier and his Saline disciple Victor Considerate (1808-1893). Hence the attention paid to the town of Salins-les-Bains, which will symbolically receive The Tulip by Julie Considerant on Friday March 17 in Besançon, molding of an object dear to the Fourierists, a symbol of uprightness.
“It’s an interesting story to tell: the utopia born at the Saline d’Arc-et-Senans was made in Guise. It has gone from a “social” architecture in modern New York with the apartment building, to shared spaces and services as we know them all over the world now”.
Prestigious guests
“Our project associates, among others, the historian Jean-Noël Jeanneney and Martin Scorsese as executive producer of the documentary “Dreaming Walls”, but also the sociologist Christian Guinchard, the historian Michel Vernus and Frédéric Panni, the director of the Familistère de Guise “.
