Swore. He will represent the department at the French florists’ cup

In his workshop well hidden at the end of a small path, Gaétan Jacquet lives his passion for flowers on a daily basis. Established since 2020 in Crotenay, the florist previously owned up to four shops in the Doubs and upper Doubs.

“But I missed the Jura,” he says. It is therefore in Crotenay that he opened, as an artisan florist, his company Bota Bota. He carries out orders, events, works in collaboration with brands of materials for florists or acts as a consultant for around twenty florist clients.

35 days of preparatory work

Immersed in flowers since a pre-apprenticeship at the age of 13, Gaétan Jacquet today does not lack ambition. The 35-year-old craftsman will soon put it to the test, during the 50e edition of the French florists’ cup, on March 25, 26 and 27 in Hyères, in the Var. And if two years ago, during his first participation in the Coupe de France organized by the French Federation of Florist Craftsmen, he had gone “the flower with a gun”, the man is now preparing hard and will be well surrounded.

He will travel to Hyères with a team of five at his side. “I estimated at 35 days of work, from 8 to 20 hours, the preparation time that I have and that I will devote to the competition”, he says. A titanic job that Gaétan Jacquet will have to repeat during the competition, with 9 hours of testing on Friday 25 March and 8 hours of testing on Saturday 26 March.

A “fuller” edition than in 2020

A 50e French cup for anniversary florists with “bigger events, more technical than in 2020”, estimates the enthusiast, who then left with a bronze medal. This time, “it will be more full-bodied”, assures the man who aims far. Why not after “becoming Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF) then European champion then world champion? he wonders. And beyond the competitive aspect of the competition, Gaétan Jacquet sees it as a way to promote his profession, which he considers wrongly considered as “a siding”.

With a fierce will: “To make the flower, the floral art, as noble as cooking can be today. It is also an opportunity for enthusiasts to highlight their activity. He recognizes it: his bronze medal two years ago gave him a gain in activity that he estimates between 20 and 30%. A beautiful presentation of his profession and his know-how which he hopes to come out with gold this year.
