The Swiss national culinary team won its first gold medal in the “Restaurant of Nations” discipline at the Culinary Olympics in Stuttgart. On February 3rd, the team prepared a three-course meal for 110 people. «We are all very satisfied with our performance. And although we don’t know the number of points, the first gold is the best shot of motivation for the next competition tomorrow,” said team boss Marco Steiner. On February 5th, the kitchen team will compete in the Chefs Table program.

Medals at the Culinary Olympics
A medal or certificate will be awarded in each competition on all four days of competition. Multiple teams can receive the same medal. The competition and overall winners will be chosen at the awards ceremony on February 7th. The teams with the highest points over the four days of competition are Olympic champions.

Gold for regional team
The Swiss Culinary Creators team from Eastern Switzerland also won gold in the regional teams category. It became clear from the jury feedback on the team’s cold exhibition table that it could be enough for the targeted gold medal, as stated in the media release. “I have never received such positive feedback in my competitive career,” said team captain Urs Koller.

The junior national culinary team at the Chef’s Table competition
On Sunday evening, February 4, the Junior National Culinary Team was in action at the Chef’s Table competition – the first of two competitions for the team. In five hours, the team prepared finger food, a cold fish platter, a vegan intermediate course, a main course and a dessert for ten people and the jury.

Team member Karina Fruman described the mood before the start of the first competition as good: “We are all very focused and ready for the next few days.” One of the biggest challenges at the Chef’s Table for the reigning world champions is time: “We tried to go one step further after the World Cup. Of course, that means more effort for us in the same amount of time.” But Fruman is convinced: “If the day’s form is right, things will go really well.” (mm)
