The strict ban on fireworks, for example on the St. Gallen monastery square, applies every year. But this time it should remain very quiet on New Year’s Eve due to the risk of coronavirus spreading. The local authorities had specifically called on people to avoid gatherings and to celebrate at home on a small scale. Usually hundreds of people toast the New Year on the square.
