Switzerland, the anti-immigration initiative rejected in the referendum

Ticino goes against the trend – To be accepted, popular initiatives must be approved by the double majority of the people and the cantons. The text submitted to referendum was instead rejected by a majority of the 26 cantons and semi-cantons. And speaking of cantons, the result in Ticino went against the trend, where the “Yes” won. In fact, the voters of the canton of Ticino approved the ‘For limited immigration’ initiative with 53.1% in favor and 46.9 against.

Switzerland, therefore, will not go back to deciding on its own which foreigners to accept and which not, since the popular initiative of the People’s Party to abolish the agreement on the free movement of persons with the European Union has been rejected.
