11. June 2021 12:12

Bern – The Federal Council has decided that Switzerland will support the World Bank Group in establishing local capital markets in developing countries. This is intended to pave the way for private investments in public infrastructure, for example.

Switzerland will be with the World Bank Group for another five years (WBG) work together. The Federal Council decided on Friday. In this context, Switzerland is working together with the WBG to ensure that developing countries reform their capital markets. As in a corresponding Press release This means that this is central in order to be able to mobilize private funds to finance long-term investments, for example in public infrastructure.

Switzerland is spending 25 million francs on this. They come from the framework credit for Economic Development Cooperation 2021-2024. In the future, technical support should focus even more on the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the UN. Switzerland’s development cooperation gives people and companies “access to markets and opportunities”, promotes sustainable prosperity and thus makes a “contribution to poverty reduction”. mm
