Switzerland Reports Outbreak of H5N1 Avian Influenza in Nature Reserve

Previously the Slovak authorities also reported an outbreak of bird flu H5N1.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PARIS — Switzerland reports outbreak H5N1 bird flu highly pathogenic in poultry in nature reserves, said the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) on Friday (26/11). The virus killed 22 birds at the nature reserve in the northern district of Huentwangen near the German border.

The other eight birds were culled, the OIE said, citing a report by Swiss authorities. The case in Switzerland comes after a number of bird flu outbreaks were found in poultry and wild birds in Europe in recent weeks.

Previously the Slovak authorities also reported a similar outbreak. The Netherlands in October ordered commercial farmers to confine all their livestock after a bird flu case was reported from a farm.

France also extended a rule that requires the storage of poultry in a closed room early this November.
