BERN, iNews.id – Swiss reject the call from the group Jewish in the country to include the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas on the list terrorist. Because Switzerland is a neutral country.
Several Jewish community groups in Switzerland, namely the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities (SIG) and the Swiss Liberal Jewish Platform (PLJS) on May 20 called Hamas an extremist, terrorist and anti-Semitic organization. Embassy Israel in Bern also issued a similar call.
They are of the view that Hamas members should not be allowed to move freely, collect funds, and conduct business activities in Switzerland.
Swiss Radio reported that Switzerland did not form formal alliances with other countries. This is the reason the country is often used as a mediator in international conflict disputes as well as hosting negotiations.
“As part of the policy of supporting peace in the region, it is important to continue to dialogue with all parties, and to continue the (peace) efforts between Israel and Palestine and between Palestine itself, namely Hamas and Fatah,” Swiss Radio reported.
The European Union has listed Hamas as a terrorist organization, so it cannot play any mediating role. Switzerland, on the other hand, is not a member of the bloc and can still play a mediating role.
