Switzerland: Partial unemployment will be made easier – Switzerland

A part-time worker will no longer be forced to seek temporary employment. And claims can be made online. The Council of States finalized the revision of the unemployment insurance law on Wednesday.

It eliminated the last remaining discrepancy regarding the use of the Confederation’s information system. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs said it had found a suitable solution for the few cantons concerned, said Peter Hegglin (PDC / ZG). The Confederation will continue to look for pragmatic solutions, assured Federal Councilor Guy Parmelin.

The revision of the law simplifies the provisions concerning compensation in the event of reduced working hours and in the event of bad weather. Guy Parmelin said that new measures would be announced shortly in the context of the coronavirus epidemic.

React in time

The adapted law modifies the conditions for an extension of the maximum duration of partial unemployment so that the government can react in time in the event of difficult economic conditions to preserve jobs.

It also creates the legal basis for quickly implementing the e-government strategy for unemployment insurance. Thus, certain services, such as the possibility of submitting a partial unemployment application online, should reduce the administrative procedures of companies in the future. Appointments at the regional employment office would be more council-oriented.

The revision is to come into force in 2021. (ats / nxp)
