The post office recorded lower results in 2019 compared to the previous year. Consolidated profit decreased from 149 million francs to 255 million, while operating profit fell 11% to 450 million.
These results are not surprising, noted Thursday at the annual press conference the general manager of the yellow giant, Roberto Cirillo. The framework conditions remain difficult, he added, pointing to the low interest rates, the decline in the volume of letters and the strong growth in that of parcels which have weighed on results for several years.
But thanks to market prospecting measures and increased efficiency of business units, the result has not declined as much as the deterioration of framework conditions let predict, notes La Poste in a press release. The 11% drop in operating income went from 505 million francs in 2018 to 450 million in 2019.
La Poste again exceeded the targets set by the Confederation, said Cirillo. Over the past ten years, it has paid approximately 2 billion francs in dividends to the Confederation and 240 million francs in taxes. (ats / nxp)
