In a referendum, the Swiss electorate voted in favor of financial participation of streaming platforms such as Netflix in Swiss films and series and in favor of a quota for European productions. Around 58 percent voted in favor of the law known as “Lex Netflix” on May 15. The voters thus approved a reform of the film law that Parliament passed in October.

Four percent for the Swiss film

Since 2007, Swiss television stations have been obliged to invest four percent of their turnover in Swiss film productions. Streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+ now have to reinvest four percent of their sales generated in Switzerland in the country in order to strengthen the Swiss film industry and ensure more Swiss productions.

Many thanks for enough yes votes
