The Swiss authorities have decided to close their airspace to aircraft of the parties to the conflict in Ukraine, as well as to countries that provide them with military support. This is clear from the decree published today.
It notes that “requests to fly over from parties to the conflict and other countries in order to provide military support to the parties to the conflict, in particular the supply of military materials, will not be accepted.”
Bern explained that the ban did not apply to flights of military aircraft of the parties to the conflict and other countries “for humanitarian or medical purposes, including the transportation of the wounded.”
Switzerland, which has the status of a neutral state and is not a member of the European Union (EU), said on March 4th that it supports EU sanctions against Russia and closed its airspace to Russian aircraft.
