The Swiss economy, hard hit by the Covid-19 crisis, should gradually recover thanks to the second set of measures which will take effect on May 11. Guy Parmelin even count on a rebound of 5.5% in 2021, without however returning to the level of 2019.
Today, 1.9 million workers are announced as part-time workers, or 37% of the workforce, the economy minister said on Wednesday. Some cantons are particularly affected. In the Jura or Ticino, the rate reaches 50%. At the Swiss level, the unemployment rate rose by 0.8% to 3.3%.
Private consumption will be handicapped by a drop in household purchasing power. “The process will be long and complicated, each step has fortunately immediate and positive effects for the economy, but it is necessary to succeed each stage, in the strict respect of the sanitary conditions”, added the Vaudois.
It is important that all actors demonstrate responsibility. “It is at all costs to avoid a relapse”. (ats / nxp)
