Two other protesters were executed in Iran. As announced by the Iranian judicial authority on Saturday, the two men Mohammad Mahdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini were hanged in the early hours of the morning. Switzerland reacted promptly and condemned the executions, as the foreign department (EDA) writes on Twitter. Switzerland rejects the death penalty “under all circumstances”.
The two men were accused of being responsible for the death of a security guard during anti-system protests in November. This is what the judiciary writes on its Mizan web portal. This brings to four the number of protesters executed during the more than three months of protests critical of the system.
Demonstration in Zurich
The violence of the Iranian regime is also met with protests by the Swiss population. Only on Saturday did people in Zurich take to the streets again to demonstrate against. Among other things, the organizers are calling for Switzerland to participate in EU sanctions against Iran.
The trigger for the nationwide protests in Iran was the death of Iranian Kurd Jina Mahsa Amini in mid-September 2022. She died in police custody after being arrested by the so-called deputy police for violating Islamic dress codes. Since then there have been repeated protests against the repressive course of the government and the Islamic system of government. (abi/dpa)
