Switzerland’s neutrality requires foreign countries that buy their weapons to obtain permission to re-export them. Denmark planned to transfer 20 Piranha III armored personnel carriers to Ukraine. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs rejected Denmark’s request to re-export the Piranha III armored personnel carrier, citing a policy of neutrality.
The policy of neutrality consists in refusing to supply weapons and dual-use goods to conflict zones. Earlier, Switzerland had already banned the supply of ammunition for self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, which Germany will supply to Ukraine.

However, politicians from the center parties argue that the weapons will be used to protect the country from invasion. Because of this, neutrality needs to be reconsidered. Politicians on the right and left believe that the re-export of weapons will undermine the neutrality of Switzerland.
Switzerland has already abandoned the previous practice and accepted the sanctions of the European Union imposed against the Russian Federation for the invasion of Ukraine.
