Switzerland and Egypt’s Commitment to Combating Illegal Trafficking of Cultural Property

Today, Tuesday, the Embassy of Switzerland in Cairo considered that Switzerland’s handover of a piece of the statue of King Ramses II to the Embassy of Egypt in Bern confirms the joint commitment of both countries to combating illegal trafficking of cultural property on the basis of the bilateral agreement signed in 2011.

According to the press release issued by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture and published by the embassy today, the Director of the Federal Office of Culture, Karen Bachmann, handed over an important artifact to the Egyptian Embassy in Bern, where the piece, which is part of a statue of Pharaoh Ramesses II, was confiscated in Geneva as part of It is a criminal procedure, and it is rejected in application of the law on the international transfer of cultural property.
