Thanks to an insurance policy in the event of a cancellation due to a pandemic, the Organizing Committee (OC) of the Ice Hockey World Cup 2020 in Switzerland closes the tournament, which never took place due to the coronavirus, with a surplus of CHF 13.4 million (CHF 12.41 million). However, Bloch specified: “It is not a matter of a profit in the strict sense of the word, but of budgeted rights that we have insured and are now being reimbursed.” The World Cup organizers, headed by OC President Gian Gilli, took out insurance in the run-up to the tournament, which protects the net sales forecast according to the budget. This total was around 40 million francs (37.04 million euros). After deducting the reimbursements to sponsors, ticket buyers and hotels, among others, the funds mentioned were left for the organizers.

The cancellation insurance, which the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) urges all World Cup organizers to take out, cost the OC 350,000 francs (around 324,150 euros).
