The Sport-Toto-Gesellschaft (STG) was founded in 1938 to offer Sport-Toto products and support national sport with net income. Since this partnership began more than 80 years ago, Swiss football has received more than 200 million Swiss francs. The contributions went towards the promotion of the best young talents in men’s and women’s football, as well as the training and further training of coaches and referees.
On January 1, 2023 the conference on games money (FDKG) will be released for the future distribution and monitoring of funding for national sport Swiss Sports Promotion Foundation (SFS) of the Sport Toto Society.
Since the net profits of the lottery companies are entirely passed on to the cantons for charitable purposes, it goes without saying that in future the FDKG, in which all 26 cantons are represented, will decide the amount of funding for national sport and its use . In order to create a certain degree of independence of the fund distribution authority from the FDKG, the gambling concordat provides for the establishment of the Swiss Foundation for the Promotion of Sport under public law, which is integrated into the intercantonal structures.
National sport funding may continue to be used exclusively for youth competitive sport and higher education and training. The foundation will pay out funds for national sport for the first time in mid-2023.
