Odermatt set out to win the first round, in which he built up a lead of three tenths thanks to the fastest time. In the second, only Feller defeated him, before whom he eventually won with a lead of 48 hundredths. Last year’s winner from Adelboden, Pinturault, was 54 hundredths behind. Thirty-five-year-old Kryštof Krýzl did not finish the first round and again did not receive the scoring position, which he last filled in March 2017.

Thanks to the victory in front of ten thousand fans, the 24-year-old Odermatt strengthened his lead in the SP standings. He has 845 points, Nor Aleksander Aamodt Kilde in second 469. Odermatt leads the giant slalom with a lead of 219 points over Feller.

Thanks to Odermatt, Switzerland achieved the first giant slalom winner at home after 14 years. In this century, only Didier Cuche in 2002 and Marc Berthod six years later did. They both triumphed in Adelboden.

“There is nothing more beautiful and harder than winning in front of a local audience. I tried to stay calm and not notice people much. After this victory, I don’t care,” Odermatt said exaggerated a month before the Beijing Olympics.

Odermatt became only the second Swiss to win at least four giant slaloms in one World Cup season. Michael von Grünigen is the only one who has managed so far, he succeeded five times in 1995/96 and four times in the 1996/97 season.
