Swiss President Alain Berset visited the Panzi hospital in the commune of Ibanda in Bukavu, in the province of South Kivu.
This health structure, headed by Doctor Dénis Mukwege, Nobel Peace Prize winner, takes care of survivors of rape.
Welcomed by Doctor Mukwege, the hospital staff and the patients, Mr. Berset testified to the good collaboration between the Panzi hospital and the Swiss Cooperation. It was during his visit to this medical structure, this Saturday, April 15, 2023.
The President of the Swiss Confederation also talks about the good relations between Cooperation in his country and the Dénis Mukwege Center of Excellence.
He appreciates the professionalism implemented in the context of the care of survivors of sexual violence and the diplomatic training in promoting gender balance.
After a guided tour of the various services organized by this hospital, Alain Berset addresses the nursing staff and specifically the women survivors of sexual violence cared for by the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize hospital.
In his remarks, Berset salutes the courage and bravery of these women, who, beyond the traumas they suffer, do not refrain from denouncing the abuses of which they are victims.
“It is really a great pleasure and a pleasure to meet you. The impression is strong to see you all there. We know and support the work of Doctor Mukwege. We know his extremely important work for the violence you have suffered. You are the most important people,” he said.
It should be recalled that the Swiss President has been staying in Bukavu since the evening of Friday April 14. The ministers of communication and media Patrick Muyaya and that of humanitarian actions Modeste Mutinga are part of the delegation.
