Swiss Motorway Vignettes Now Available Electronically from August

– If you want to drive on Swiss motorways, you need a vignette – which will also be available in electronic form from August.

The vignettes for using the Swiss motorways will also be available electronically from August. You can online purchased and paid for by credit card.

The price is the same as for the vignette, which is stuck to the windscreen: 40 francs (around 42 euros). The adhesive vignette will also continue to be sold.

The vignette is actually valid for 14 months, from December 1st of the previous year to January 31st of the following year. Anyone who purchases it in August 2023 can only use the copy until the end of January 2024. This applies to both the electronic vignette and the stick-on vignette. But the price is the same.

Vehicle owners must enter the vehicle category, country of registration and number plate on a portal. A user account and information about the person buying the vignette are not required. If the owner changes the car and keeps the number plate, the vignette is still valid. If the number plates are changed, you can request transfer to the new number plate in the portal. This is once per term.

According to the authorities, the e-vignette is checked at the border by employees of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security. On Swiss roads, the police carry out spot checks by looking at number plates.
