“It’s a pity that we started like that, but if we lose with 0:6 or 0:1, we wouldn’t be given the points anyway. We know where we can put in and work on. The tournament has only just started, and the world championship is long,” consoled Tom Anderson after the defeat. He spent 12:52 minutes on the court and earned a negative -1 efficiency rating.
Anderson pointed out that the beginning of the game turned out to be unsuccessful and the team needed to be shaken up, but in the dressing room all the conversations took place in calm tones. “If we started falling on top of each other, nothing good would happen. We want to keep a good team, and everyone stayed positive.”
“They liked it, we didn’t. Roja [Rodrigo Ābols] could have thrown in at the start and it would have been a different game. We’re saving for more important games,” Anderson smiled. “Maybe we didn’t go for the goal enough. Much more to throw. We try to pass, find the most beautiful goal. We have to play like Canada – they scored all the goals from in front of the goal.”
Anderson concluded that Canadian hockey players are also only human and tend to make both positional and technical mistakes on the court, but their quality is undeniable. “Of course, they are hockey players of a higher class, and it was also proven on the field,” said the top scorer of the Swiss second league. He scored 65 points in 45 regular season games.
Anderson once represented both the U18 and U20 national teams, but he had to wait a long time before making his debut in the national team at the World Championship. With experience comes maturity. “It’s not 18 anymore,” Anderson said of the emotions of his debut. “Of course, it’s a pleasure to debut, but it would be cooler to debut with a victory.”
