Swiss flight LX22 to New York followed an odd route on Thursday. According to data from the Flightradar24 platform, the aircraft left Swiss airspace in a northwesterly direction, then circled over France, before returning towards central Switzerland via Thun. Above Lake Lucerne, the aircraft turned around again and flew over Liechtenstein before finally landing at Zurich airport.
Swiss confirms the process. “The flight operated by an Airbus A330-300 was diverted from Geneva to Zurich following an alert in the cockpit related to hydraulic fluid. Zurich airport was chosen because of the maintenance possibilities. In order to reduce the weight of the aircraft on landing and to carry out additional checks in the cockpit, the pilots decided to perform an additional loop before landing. In the same interval, a reserve crew as well as a replacement aircraft were called, ”explains the spokesperson for the company, Doriane Cavalli. The flight left at 6 p.m.
