On the occasion of a special event organized by Locarno Pro, the branch of the Locarno Film Festival, Swiss Films presented four films for specialist guests and demonstrated the diversity of generations and genres. The selection included the new film by “Thunder” director Carmen Jacquier, which was announced this week as Switzerland’s entry in the “International Feature Film” category at the Oscars.
In conversation with diverse“I am extremely honored by this news and excited to imagine what it will be like to work on the Oscar campaign for Thunder,” said Jacquier. Then I’m also really looking forward to preparing the release of the next project “Les Paradis des Diane” with co-director Jean Gassman. We look forward to interesting and perhaps controversial discussions about the film.
“Les Paradis des Diane” tells the story of a woman who suffers from postpartum depression, leaves her home, her new baby and her family and flees to Portugal. During the screening, Jacquier noted that the film was inspired by the experiences of a close friend and attempts to shed light on issues related to mental health. Gassman revealed that some editorial changes are still underway, but that the film will seek festival spots sometime in the new year and is also looking for international distribution.
Pierre Monard’s third film “Bisons” was also shown in the preview. A sort of modern Western with a “Fight Club” feel, the film stars Maxime Valvini as a farmer and skilled wrestler who is drawn into illegal fights by his do-nothing brother in order to save the family farm. And his family is in financial ruin. Producer Xavier Grin presented a brilliantly shot teaser that suggests a mix of gritty boxing drama and rural realism. The post-production of the film is being completed.

It also features another film genre, Paulin Life-Size by Nadge de Benoît Lluthi, a romantic comedy about a successful woman whose life is thrown into disarray by her mother’s decision to move away to write poetry. The eponymous Pauline – played by Deborah François – is a landscape gardener who must tackle an important new project while also adjusting to major changes in her life.

A darker tone is struck in Katlin Gödrös’ new film, a 19th-century historical drama that takes full advantage of the magnificent Alpine landscape. The film tells the story of a very talented maid who is forced to marry a boy who dreams of owning his own horse. The film, tentatively titled “Jacob’s Horse,” is almost finished and is looking for a festival location for its world premiere.

Finally, the youngest participant, 25-year-old Nicolas Dozole, presented his own film “Last Party”, a coming-of-age story. During a graduation ceremony, four teenagers are confronted with their fears in the midst of an existential crisis. As they are locked up, they wonder if this is their last night.
