At 10:53 am, the Dutch plane flew over the border near Waldshut in the direction of Switzerland, as announced by the Swiss army on Sunday. According to the report, Switzerland was informed 12 minutes earlier by the French authorities that a plane without radio communication was in the airspace above Colmar.
Finally, at 11:01 am, a patrol with two F / A-18 fighters took off from Payerne VD, the statement further states. The patrol reportedly reached the Dutch plane a short time later in the Samedan GR area and successfully convinced the pilot to establish radio contact. The plane was eventually escorted into Italian airspace west of Lake Garda.
The military assumes pilot error, as Army spokesman Daniel Reist said when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency. However, flight without radio contact is always associated with dangers for the population. For example, the aviation authority cannot tell the pilot if he is flying too low. “It is important to act quickly so that no accidents occur,” says Reist.
The aircraft is a Pilatus PC12, a single-engine multirole aircraft. The plane took off from Kempen in the Netherlands. The reason for the flight is unknown.
