Swiss emigrants: This is how Jörg Höppner lives in Germany

Occupation: Retired and working part-time at Yachtcharter Schulz in Waren (D) as a charter boat instructor, skipper trainer and coach.

Life in numbers: He lives debt-free in his own house with his wife Antje (60), receives a pension from Switzerland and earns up to 538 euros a month as pocket money. A kilo of bread costs 5 francs, a trip to the hairdresser starts at 40 francs.

After several holidays in the Mecklenburg Lake District, Jörg Höppner and his wife decide to move to the “little sea” – “Müritz” in Slavic. In 2018, the emigrants put their bags in Winterthur, and since then the couple has been living with two dogs and four cats on Germany’s largest inland lake.
