Swiss Celebrities Transformed into Barbie and Ken: AI’s Portrayal

Barbie-Hype

Do you recognize these Swiss? This is how our celebs look in the Barbie look

What would happen if one day Switzerland turned into Barbieland? We asked an artificial intelligence to portray 19 Swiss celebrities as Barbie and Ken. That came out.

The world is in the Barbie hype: The film about the most famous plastic doll in the world has brought in almost 800 million dollars so far, and Barbie is on everyone’s lips again in everyday life. Pictures are doing the rounds that transform the real world into Barbieland. We asked ourselves: What would Switzerland look like in such a case? So we asked the AI software Midjourney to design 20 Swiss celebrities as Barbie or Ken versions.

The task was not easy. Often the AI just didn’t know the people we put in front of it. For example, it was impossible to get a good picture of Sion President Christian Constantin or Federal Councilor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider. Another problem: Midjourney seems to systematically sexualize the female characters, as they are always made up and often seen in tight dresses.

Some aesthetic decisions also remain unclear: Why Christoph Blocher is holding a baby or why Guy Parmelin is dressed like a magician remains unclear. With these difficulties in mind, here are the results…
