Nevio Bernet, second last year, is now the shining winner of the Swiss Skills.
The qualification winner of the official Swiss professional championships for automotive mechatronics engineers prevailed in the final. Nevio Bernet, who works in the Wagner village garage in Zell LU, had already completed his competition in the first group on Thursday and then had to wait until Sunday evening until his victory was certain.
And just like last year, Abinas Uthayarasa and Noah Frey ranked directly behind Bernet – but in reverse order.
Tricky tasks at five posts
Over the course of four days, 20 participants completed tricky tasks at five posts each. In the braking department, malfunctions in the ABS and ESP had to be rectified, and in the mechanical department, the technical skills on the chassis and steering were tested. Mechanical skills were also required at the engine mechanics position. Engine components from the dismantled cylinder head had to be measured and assessed. At another location, the electrical system reported various malfunctions that needed to be diagnosed and corrected.
World Skills premiere with two women
The three best automotive mechatronics engineers specializing in passenger cars have qualified with their performance for the selection competition for the World Skills next September in Lyon. For the first time, the AGVS will also compete in the commercial vehicle category at the World Professional Championships. The three best placed in the final of the Swiss Skills Championships, Alina Knüsel, Roger Ruch and Sophie Schumacher, will decide whether to take part in a selection competition until the end of the year.
Great interest in car jobs
Since 2018, Markus Schwab, responsible for automotive technology and testing at AGVS, has been responsible for the structure and execution of the tests at Swiss Skills.
Markus Schwab: «Solving all problems and errors is very difficult. “To achieve that, everything has to run optimally,” he says. In addition, one should not forget the stress factor at the trade fair. “It’s a testing situation, so some people are nervous. There are also a lot of visitors standing on the edge and watching.”
